Anyone frustrated that old computers can't use updated websites due only to flashy design features?
Lots of popular websites - shops, public transport operators, news sites - need to look good to attract custom. Regular upgrades eventually exclude people with older computers, and at the same time add challenges to all sorts of other users trying to work their way through the fog to reach the actual content. Think also of the huge portions of humanity who could potentially access the net with older (cheap) equipment but for this issue. I want to know if there are any campaigns on this issue - or any people seeking to influence commercial companies - or any known advocates on this issue - or anyone seeking technological solutions.. I realise that this issue is related to general accessibility issues - but it's the technological issue I'm particularly asking about here. Why, for instance, can't I switch off whatever function it is on this website which is meaning that it takes so long for each typed word to appear as I write this question? Maybe each word is being spellchecked... which would be helpful to someone on a faster computer, but simply makes it difficult to use for me.
